4 New Year's Eve Outfit Ideas

 IMG 5611

It’s almost time to switch our calendars over to January 2020! I’m so excited for the New Year annnd New Decade. With that being said, I know we all are going to want to ring in the New Year in style! If we're gonna start a whole new decade we gotta do it right. I’m not one to spend a lot of money on a new outfit. Especially, one that is only really for a certain occasion. So, my go to place to find an outfit for any occasion is Goodwill. You can find anything there! Trust me! I’ve seen some very unique and interesting things.

My goal going into Goodwill was to find 4 types of outfits. I wanted a casual look, date night look, glam look and a work party look. Prior to coming into the store I compiled all my ideas and inspiration for the perfect New Year’s Eve outfit pinterest. If you wanna take a look you can find it here

Now, I didn’t find the exact things that I pinned but I did my best to find things that were the same textile and vibe. Things on my pinterest board consisted of Sparkles, of course, lace, satin/silk, velvet, fur, fuzzy sweaters and leather. Unfortunately, I did not find any fur but I saw some in other people’s carts and was very sad I didn’t find them first. But god them for being so daring in their style. Fur is a very extra detail that many stay away from but where is the fun in that!

1. Casual Hangout

So, here is the first look. It’s a pink knit sweater with pink sequins attached. I paired it with some distressed skinny jeans and Sam Elderman sequin slip ons. This outfit is for a more laid back New Year’s Eve get together. It has a little sparkle for the occasion but isn’t too much for a casual event. I also wanted to find a fuzzy sweater for this look. It’s festive but super comfortable!

To copy the look, find a knit sequin or fuzzy sweater, distressed jeans, and sequin slip-ons.

2. Dressy Party

The next look I wanted something a little more fancy. This is definitely an outfit I’d wear to a more dressed up party. The top is a shiny gold fabric. It sort of had a nice glittery shimmer which I thought it went well with the leather skit. I would have hemmed the leather skirt a little since I am a more petite person. This length of skirt usually makes me seem a lot shorter than I really am. For shoes I wanted to go with a little fierce moment. So I went with cheetah print pointed-toe slingback kitten heel (that was a mouth full). This look I really tried to find a silk top but that was the closest I could get.

To copy the look, find a shimmery top, layer over a black cami, pair with black leather skirt and strappy heels or booties will also look great.

3. Glam Affair

I just love velvet for the holiday’s. It’s so rich and gives off this subtle shine. Plus, who doesn’t like feeling up on some velvet. So good! I found two velvet maxi dresses. One in black and one in this beautiful rich maroon color. For the maroon dress I took a belt to it and shortened the dress. I was drowning in it!! Problems of a 5’2” girl! But that’s the best part to thrifting is seeing what something could be. So if I was to buy this dress, I would hem it to above my knee. I paired it with these black Steve Madden heels. If there was a gold sparkly shoe that matched I would have used that instead. New Year’s is definitely the occasion you want to go full glam!

For the black dress, I took a snake skin belt to cinch it in at the waist. It was really boxy but with that trick it really gave it shape and changed the entire look. I kept on the same Steve Madden shoes. Honestly, they were the perfect shoe for the look. I thought it was super glam and elegant.

4. Work Attire

Since some people have to work New Year’s Eve and New Years day I thought I’d throw in this business look as well. I ran into these plaid pants and knew I just had to find something to go with it.I found this gold top in the lingerie section. When I see silky tops on pinterest I know that the best place to find them is in that section of the thrift. It’s a gold mine for silky, satin-y tops. Next was a blazer, I didn’t want my whole arms out especially in all this cold weather. The heels just made the most sense with what I found but I would have like to pair with a cute bootie. Possibly, a white bootie.

To copy the look, find a shimmery lingerie top, plaid or black trousers, black blazer and booties.

I hope you all found these looks inspiring! You can always find great affordable and stylish looks at your local thrift store. Just go in with an open mind and also an idea of the items you are looking for. It really helps you when you are on the hunt! Have a fantastic and safe New Year’s Eve!!
